One of Donegal’s most breathtaking beaches has been named as the very best of the entire Wild Atlantic Way.
Silver Strand (Malin Beg) near Glencolmcille is the best beach along the 2,600km coastal route, as voted by social media users.
Enniscrone Beach in Sligo, Dog’s Bay in Galway, and Inch Beach in Kerry were also announced in the top four coastal gems of the west of Ireland.
Tucked at the edge of a village by the same name, Malainn Bhig (Malinbeg) is a unique secluded bay surrounded by high cliffs. Visitors can take in the bay from the shores of the beautiful Silver Strand.
You can look out on the water from the horseshoe-shaped cliffs, or head down a long and winding path of steps to the spectacular Silver Strand. Head for a peaceful walk and take in views of the Atlantic and the cliffs of Slieve League to the south-east.
Silver Strand hit the big screen in the new Liam Neeson action film “In the Land of Saints and Sinners”. The crescent-shaped beach added an element of wild drama to the Netflix film, which was shot in spring of 2022 in south west Donegal.
In promoting the movie, Neeson described the remote Donegal location, where he spent seven weeks filming, as ‘very beautiful.’
