There is huge sadness following the sudden death of Letterkenny man Eugene McGettigan.

A member of the team behind the popular McGettigan Travel, Eugene was a larger than life character who made time for everyone.

A native of Ard o’Donnell, Eugene always had a smile and a friendly word.

His family and colleagues are today devastated at his passing and posted a touching message to tell the public of their loss.

The emotional message said “With a very heavy heart, we are absolutely devastated to announce the sudden passing of our dear brother, uncle, friend and a highly important member of our family and team here at McGettigan Travel.

“Eugene, you were the heart and soul of our tours, always willing for a chat and ready for anything, anytime, anyplace.

“His premature passing will leave a huge void in our daily lives and his ever cheerful and knowledgeable presence will be sorely missed. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

“We’re certain there will be a man to meet you on the other side for a yarn or two.”

Eugene shared his time between Donegal and Dubai and made so many friends wherever he went.

A true professional, his bus tours were a delight for the thousands of customers whose lives he touched on a daily basis.

The company said their sincere condolences go Eugene’s sons Barry (Caroline), Ryan, Rory (Deandra) and Eileen and his two grand daughters Erin & Chloe.

The company’s office will remain closed at this time but we will be reachable via email (mcgettigantravel@outlook.com)

Eugene’s funeral details have yet to be announced.

May he rest in peace.
