Sadness after passing of Ann Ní Mhaoinigh

There is huge sadness in West Donegal, after the passing of Ann Ní Mhaoinigh.

Ann was well known in Irish traditional music circles as a brilliantly talented singer and musician.

She was also the sister of Altan member Mairéad Ní Mhaoinigh.

Ann had been battling cancer since 2020, and in 2022 had a fundraiser to support her battle reach €95,000, as she sought treatments in Mexico and elsewhere.

Ann’s obituary notice and funeral arrangements are as follows:

Fuair Anna Ní Mhaonaigh as Cois Claidigh, Gaoth Dobhair, bás in Ospís Dhún na nGall ar an 10ú Lúnasa 2024, i measc a teaghlach.

Beidh a faire ar siúl in Ionad Pobail Dhún Lúiche (F92 PK22) ar an Domhnach, 11ú Lúnasa ón 1 a chlog agus beidh tionól ceoil ina h-onóir agus lena ceiliúriú ag toiseacht ar a 7 a chlog.

Beidh Aifreann Tórraimh Ann ar siúl i dTeach Pobail an Chroí Ró- Naofa, Dún Lúiche ar a 1 a chlog, Dé Luain agus aistreofar a corp go Condae an Chabháin ina dhiaidh sin, lena creimiú go príobhaideach.

Crothnaithe go grámhar ag a teaghlach; Róise, Caitríona, Kitty, Mairéad, Gearóid, Damian, Odhrán, Nia, Ciarán, Ursula & Dermot, chomh maith le ciorcal leathan teaghlaigh agus cairde eile.

Suaimhneas Síoraí ar a h-anam uasal.

Ann Ní Mhaonaigh from Coshclady, Gweedore died 10th August 2024, in Donegal Hospice surrounded by her loved ones.

Her wake will be held in Ionad Pobail Dhún Lúiche (F92 PK22) on Sunday, 11th August from 1:00pm, with a musical celebration to honour Ann, beginning at 7:00pm.

Deeply loved by her family; Róise, Catriona, Kitty, Mairéad, Gearóid, Damian, Odhrán, Nia, Ciarán, Ursula & Dermot, along with her wider circle of friends, colleagues & admirers.

Her Funeral Mass will be held in The Sacred Heart Church, Dunlewey at 1pm on Monday 12th August 2024. Removal afterwards for private cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

May she Rest in Peace.
