Castlefinn woman Ruby Druce is now believed to be the oldest living person in Ireland.
At 108 years young, Ruby is a legendary lady in Donegal.
Her new status follows the passing of Phyllis Furness in Galway, aged 109. Ms Furness, a British-born Irish centenarian, sadly passed on Monday.
The oldest living man in Ireland, according to Gerontology is Galway man Martin McEvilly (born 26 July 1916) aged 108 years.
Ruby Druce, born on New Year’s Eve 1915, was the eldest of five children. She lived through two pandemics, two World Wars, and has been a pioneer all her life, save for a drop of poitín when she contracted the Spanish flu in 1918. Ruby lost her brother, James, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth to the outbreak.
Her secret to a long life has been ‘plenty of walking, hard work and a daily cod liver oil capsule’.
