The Ballybofey, Stranorlar & District Historical Society will hold a number of events during Heritage Week.

This coming Saturday, August 17, there will be an Open Day at Tony Gallinagh’s fascinating farm and country museum in Dunwiley, Stranorlar (F93 AD62) from 11am-4pm.

Tony has acquired additional artifacts to add to his already large, lifetime collection. This is a free event but there will be a voluntary donation box for the Donegal Hospice.

On Tuesday 20th of August at 4pm, the society will unveil the 100th Anniversary plaque outside Ballybofey Garda Station on the town’s main street.

On Thursday the 22nd of August at 7pm, there will be a tour of Stranorlar RC graveyard on Chapel Street by members of the historical group. There, you will learn about Sean MacCumhaill, Chris McDonagh, Michael Duffy and other members of the local community who are buried there. On Saturday 24th August at 2pm, there will be a tour of St Mary’s Church of Ireland Graveyard in Stranorlar. This tour will be given by Aubrey Oliver where he will talk about graves of Issac Butt, The Hayes of Drumboe Castle and many more.

Membership of this group is rising all the time, so if you are interested in local history, come and join us.

Meetings and talks take place on the fourth Monday of the month, resuming in September.
