Sadness as popular Bridie Byrne passes away aged 102

There is much sadness following the passing of one of Donegal’s oldest citizens, Bridie Byrne, of Ardara and Glenties.

Bridie, who was in her 103rd year, passed away in the loving care of the staff of the Donegal Hospice surrounded by her loving family and dear friends.

Bridie (nee Sweeney), resided for many years at Main Street, Ardara and formerly Mulantiboyle, Glenties.

She was predeceased by her sister Molly and her late husband Hugh.

The late Bridie Byrne, RIP.

Bridie will be hugely missed by her brother Danny, nephews Donal, Raymond and Brendan, nieces Mary, Bernadette and Patricia, extended family, Mary, Maureen and Frank her great nephews and nieces and all her friends in Ardara and Glenties.

On her 100th birthday, Bridie recalled her life and times including many of her jobs including working with the post office in Carrigans, Johnny Boyle’s hotel in Glenties and also the knitting factory, Kennedys.

Her remains will repose at Shovlins Funeral Home, Sandfield this evening, Friday August 16th from 6.30p.m to 8.30p.m.

Funeral from there on Saturday morning, August 17th at 10.30a.m to The Church Of The Holy Family, Ardara for 11a.m requiem mass with burial afterwards in Glenties Cemetery.

May she rest in peace.
