Plans for a major extension at the Atlantic Technological University in Letterkenny has moved to the next stage after planning permission was sought for the development.

Plans to build a library , as well as additional classrooms and office space, was first mooted back in 2018 when the campus was the Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

The plans have now been updated to meet the demands of students on the ever-growing campus.

As well as a three storey library space, the application to Donegal County Council includes plans for a general education building and offices.

It also includes specialist teaching spaces for lecture theatres, computer rooms and group study rooms.

Part of the application will also see what is called a “north-south greenway (bicycle/pedestrian pathway.)

To cater for cyclists, the plan will also see the construction of a large bicycle shed which will allow cover for 50 bikes.

The overall size of the education building being sought is 5,516 square metres and the new extension will be located over a site extending to 1.08 hectares.
