Donegal County Council has opened a public consultation on bye-laws for special speed limits in the county.

The aim of the speed limit review is to have safer roads.

The amendment includes the 60km/h section of N56 from the Dry Arch to Polestar Roundabout as well as a section of the N56 east and south-east of the Knocknamona Roundabout junction.

Submissions are invited from the public on the Draft Road Traffic (Special Speed Limits) (County of Donegal) (Amendment) Bye-Laws 2024.

Road Traffic Act 2024 Number 10 of 2024 provides for the reduction in default speed limit on all local roads, other than local roads in built-up areas from 80km/h to 60km/h.

The Draft Road Traffic (Special Speed Limits) (County of Donegal) (Amendment) Bye-Laws 2024 presents proposed variations to this default speed limit on certain local roads in the County of Donegal. In addition, the 2024 Bye-Law Amendment includes proposed variations to the default speed limit at certain national road locations and public roads within certain housing estates.

Any submissions must be made before 5pm on Friday the 30th August 2024.
