Update: The road opened around 10pm, Monday.

Donegal County Council has confirmed that the main Inver to Killybegs road will remain closed until further notice.

The N56 has been blocked since yesterday morning following a two-vehicle crash between Inver Bridge and the turnoff to Ardaghey.

A woman in her 80s was taken to Sligo University Hospital for treatment of her injuries which are believed to be serious.

A man (50s) and a woman (40s) were also taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of their injuries believed to be non life-threatening.

The council said traffic will be diverted onto the Frosses-Glenties road (R262) and the Ardaghey-Ardara Road (LP1515) via the Tawer Rd (LP1395-5). HGV traffic is requested to use the Frosses Glenties road(R262) and the N56 via Ardara.

Further updates will be provided by Donegal County Council.
