Letterkenny councillor thanks well wishers during medical battle

Newly-elected Letterkenny councillor Tomás Seán Devine has revealed that he has been hospitalised for the past number of weeks.

Cllr Devine, who was elected for the 100% Redress Party in June, was admitted to Letterkenny University Hospital several weeks ago for an undisclosed medical condition.

He has now been transferred to Sligo University Hospital.

In an update to party followers, Cllr Devine said: “I have lost power from my waist down but I am starting to get good signs and reports from the doctors and the neurologist.

“I’m sorry I might not be online as much but I am trying to work as much as I can from the hospital.

“I want to pay gratitude to everybody that has wished me well this last while and to my party colleagues keeping the fight to the very forefront.”

Cllr Devine said his situation is an example of the importance of flexibility in the redress scheme, pointing out the need for a downstairs bedroom and bathroom in his own home due to his own circumstances.

“This government needs to get the finger out very rapidly and start helping people that is in a position like myself, and there is people out there that are far worse than me,” he said.

The determined campaigner said he is likely to be out of action physically for some time as he recovers, but is still available to contact.

It comes as the 100% Redress Party announced a series of meetings to establish a local Cumann with a view to putting a candidate, or candidates, forward for General Election.

Cllr Devine urged people to “unite together” and keep up the fight for change.

On his own situation, he said: “Spirit’s good and we’ll eventually get there. Hard to keep a good man down.”
