There is great sadness within the North-West golf community, following the passing of well-known figure Plunkett Duffy.
Plunkett, who passed away at the age of 81 earlier this week, was the long-time Head Greenkeeper at the Lisfannon links.
As his funeral cortege travelled to St Mary’s Church in Cockhill this morning, Plunkett was given a guard of honour as he made one final trip to his beloved course, which he tended to for over 50 years before his retirement.
Past and present club captains and members gathered at the club this morning for the guard of honour.
Plunkett, a Lisfannon native, lived in his lifelong residence which also overlooked the Lisfannon course.
The North West Golf Club postponed their planned President’s Day activities scheduled for the weekend, and offered their condolences to the Duffy family following Plunkett’s passing.
