Communities across Letterkenny and Donegal Town are devastated by the passing of one of life’s true gentlemen and a great sportsman, Aidan Mc Glynn.
Aidan, of Ardnawark, Barnesmore, Donegal Town and formerly Rockhill, died peacefully at Letterkenny University Hospital yesterday following a brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
Condolences have been pouring in for Aidan’s family – his wife loving wife Kathy, his parents Peter and Bernadette, sister Shauna, brothers Gareth and Brendan and his extended circle.
A tribute from St Eunan’s GAA club honoured their much-loved clubman.
A spokesperson said: “We as a club are devastated on learning of the sad passing of our much loved and respected member Aidan Mc Glynn.
“From his young days in Rockhill when he played in the Streets Leagues for Oldtown/Main St his love for St Eunan’s never wavered.
“Aidan along with his brother Gareth never missed a game, be it underage or the Senior Team.
“Always supportive, always loyal. In recent years Aidan was a vital part of the backroom team for various Senior team managers and played a key role in our many successes.
“Never one for the limelight Aidan quietly went about his business and was loved by all the players who appreciated all he did for the team.
“Tonight we are heartbroken for Aidan’s wife Cathy, his parents, his brothers and sisters and his many friends. Aidan fought his illness with courage and dignity to the end.
“There was a tear in Aidan’s eye as he left after the recent Championship game against Gweedore as he maybe knew he’d watched his last game in O’Donnell Park.
“May God bless you wee man and may your gentle soul rest in peace.”
A tribute from Naomh Conaill GAA described him as a “true Gael and a really proud and passionate St Eunans man”.
“Whenever the Eunans senior team were playing in Davy Brennan Park, Aidan was always there on duty on the clubhouse steps as he worked diligently along with his brother Gareth on stats and we always enjoyed having the chats and the banter with him,” a spokesperson said.
“To Aidan’s wife Cathy, his parents, brothers, sister, the extended family, friends and to members of the St Eunan’s GAA Club we extend our sincere condolences on their great loss.”
May He Rest In Peace
