Members of the Donegal Historical Society gathered in Donegal Town recently for a special final outing of 2024.

The historical society took to Donegal Town ahead of its upcoming 550th anniversary, to find out more about its people and culture.

Their field day visit included a trip to the Donegal Abbey, where local historian Seamus O’Doherty delivered an informative talk about the site.

They then got a guided tour of Donegal Castle from Sean Browne of the Office of Public Works (OPW), who enlightened the society on the important role it played as a stronghold under the O’Donnell clan – to its modern day restoration.
