Former MEP Marian Harkin has announced she will stand as a candidate in the next general election in Donegal South.

Ms Harkin has been a Dail Deputy for the past four years representing for Sligo, Leitrim and south Donegal.

But Ms Harkin, a native of Sligo, said she had a special place in her heart for Donegal and wants to continue to represent the people including those in Donegal south.

As an MEP, she said she understood that the North-West is still a region in need of help.
