An elderly man killed in yet another road tragedy in Co Donegal last night has been named locally.
He was Michael Toland who was in his 80s and from Annagh, Clonmany.
Mr Toland was a very well-known and popular local man who had a number of grown-up children.
It is believed he was out walking near his home when he was struck by a car around 6.20pm at Annagh Crossroads on the R238 road.
The emergency services rushed to the scene but it is understood the victim died at the scene.
Mr Toland is the SEVENTH person to die on Donegal’s roads within the past month since August 19th.
To date 15 people have now perished on the county’s roads since the start of the year compared to ten for all of last year.
A full forensic examination of the scene is being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but the road is not expected to reopen until later today.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
