The Arranmore RNLI lifeboat crew has been commended for their expertise during two successful medical evacuations from the island.
Since his arrival, Relief Coxswain Sean Curtin from Valentia Island in Kerry has responded to two calls from Malin Head Coast Guard. Both calls involved assisting in the evacuation of patients from Arranmore to Letterkenny University Hospital.
The first incident occurred on Wednesday, September 11th, at 10:30 PM, and the second took place on Wednesday, September 18th, at 12:30 PM. In both cases, the patients were safely transported to Burtonport by the Arranmore lifeboat crew before being transferred to the hospital.
The crew of the Severn class lifeboat “Myrtle Maud” included Coxswain Sean Curtin, Mechanic Philip Mc Cauley, John Mc Hugh, Kieran O’Donnell, Jamie Neeson, JJ O’Donnell, and Brian Proctor.
Coxswain Curtin praised the crew’s knowledge of the local area: “Due to spring tides the water level was really low and I would like to pay tribute to the crew on board today for their knowledge of the local area, it is a pleasure to work with the Arranmore crew as they are so knowledgeable of the tides and the area in which they operate.”
Sean continued: “Working out of the new station which was recently opened is a great experience, on my last service here we operated out of porta cabins which was rather cramped and the space in the new building is great to work out of. On behalf of the crew I would like to wish both patients a speedy recovery.”
