Donegal County Library Service is marking National Public Libraries Day 2024 on Saturday, 28th September by inviting the public to ‘Take a Closer Look’ at the wide-ranging free services open to them through their libraries.

Central Library in Letterkenny, Buncrana Community Library, Bundoran Community Library, Carndonagh Community Library and Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann are ready to welcome new and existing members through their doors on the day to showcase the wide range of facilities, services, and resources there are on offer.

For example, pop into Bundoran Community on the day to spend time in the Sensory Pod, try the Tovertafel at Central and Buncrana Library. Ask staff about online resources, numicon, C-pens, noise-cancelling headphones and social stories and more.

My Open Library is now available at Buncrana Community Library which offers extended opening hours, providing library access to members from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., 365 days per year. Call in and sign up to gain extended access to Buncrana Library for your printing, computer, reading and study needs.

For those who are unable to visit their local library on the day, there will be someone on hand between 11am and 1pm to answer any queries you might have through Facebook messenger, email, and phone. Alternatively, you can call to your local library anytime to ask about the services on offer.

National Public Libraries Open Day is an initiative to promote the role of public libraries in Irish society, raise awareness of the range of services they provide, and encourage people to become members. While the initiative focuses on one day on Saturday 28th September, your local library is always ready to welcome new and returning members. Visit www.donegallibrary.ie for details of all 13 libraries across the county and opening hours.

Membership is free and unlocks access to a large variety of free resources at your local library. There are no late fees and you can reserve your next read from the comfort of your home and your local library will let you know when it’s ready for collection. Donegal County Library Service have many free online offerings too, such as free e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines, e-newspapers, online learning and research resources.

For more information on what’s available and happening at your local library, please visit  https://www.donegallibrary.ie/photoslider/nationalpubliclibraryopenday/ or follow Donegal County Library Service on Facebook @DonegalCountyLibrary or Instagram at @donegallibrary for more information.
