For Wishes – saving for something they wish for.
Ghaoth Dobhair Credit Union is excited to invite children to kickstart their saving journey with us. It is all about showing the value of saving and planning for the future. Our approach to money as adults is shaped by how we handle it as children. By teaching children smart saving habits early on, we help them develop a strong sense of financial responsibility. It’s never too early to start!

We’re dedicated to financial education for everyone in our community. We want to make sure our younger generations grow up financially aware and empowered. Junior Savers promotion is a perfect opportunity to encourage kids to start saving regularly and to open their first savings account with us.

Setting up a savings account for children is simple, and we’re looking forward to welcoming new junior savers. Saving with a credit union not only helps children learn about money but also introduces them to the supportive, community-focused nature of credit unions. Our junior savers are the future, and we’ll be here to support them through life’s milestones, whether it’s for college, a new car, a wedding, or a home.

So if you dream of a new guitar, cool skates, gaming console, or a big holiday, remember that regular saving can help make those dreams a reality. Start saving a little each week or month, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly your savings grow. Credit Unions are here to help you reach your dreams. Open a savings account with Ghaoth Dobhair Credit union today and take the first step towards achieving your goals!

Art Competition

Each year we take part in the national Credit Union art competition and we invite all x12 national schools in our area to take part. They have all been invited this week and received their entry form.

The theme this year focuses on ‘The Joys of Life’, inviting participants to share what brings them joy and happiness. Celebrating life’s simple pleasures and treasured moments through the likes of beautiful sunsets, sharing laughter with friends, or spending time with loved ones, the theme encourages participants to highlight their precious memories ‘your own interpretation of what joy you see in your world, be it outside your front door or community and capture this on your artwork’. Young artists can use pencil, charcoal, pen, ink, felt tip, markers, crayon, pastel, water colours, gouache, acrylics, oils, poster paint or collage.

The Credit Union Art Competition continues to be one of the most successful annual promotions and one of the most prominent and longest running competitions of its type across Ireland. The competition strives to encourage artists throughout Ireland through self-expression, creativity and imagination whilst also raising awareness of credit unions at local, regional and national level.

There are three stages to the competition:
Stage 1: Own credit union area (Gweedore, Falcarragh, Annagry, Ranafast)
Stage 2: Regional Donegal area
Stage 3: National credit union

Each stage has independent judging and the top 3 winners from each category win a cash prize and then move up to the next stage to be judged. The finalist winners have their picture printed in the Credit Union wall calendar.

The deadline for submitting the artwork is Monday 14th October by 4pm. We will then showcase some of the entries at our National Credit Union Day on Thursday 17th October.
