Donegal players celebrate Warwickshire Senior Championship win

There was a strong Donegal contingent on the Rodger Casements side that won the Warwickshire Senior Championship yesterday.

Full Time: Roger Casements 1-06 Sean McDermotts 0-06

Jack Gillespie (Red Hughs) scored an impressive 1-02 as the Coventry-based outfit beat Seán McDermotts of Birmingham by 1-06 to 0-6 in terrible conditions at Páirc na hÉireann, Birmingham.

Captained by Kilcar’s Seanie Boyle, Casements led by 0-3 to 0-2 at halftime and will now compete in the All-Britain championship for only the fifth time in 65 years. It was a particularly emotional day for team selector, Paul Houston (MacCumhaills), who has been involved with the club as a player and coach for the past 30 years.

The five Donegal men pictured from L-R are: Seanie Boyle (Kilcar) (Capt); Jack Gillespie (Red Hughs); Paul Houston (MacCumhaills); Dean Bonner (St Mary’s, Convoy) and Oisin McElhinney (Red Hughs).
