U14 Chalice Final 2024
Donegal Town B 0 – 1 Glenree United
The Diamond Ballyare was the backdrop to this under 14’s final and the stage was set to give these girls their Teenage Kicks! When these two tribes go to war, It’s Times Like These that make it all worthwhile when you get the result!
The Sheephaven Bay ladies, captained by Aoibhe McGettigan made the short trek to Ballyare to contest this final against a strong Donegal Town B outfit and it was Happiness in the Hills of Donegal for the Mevagh Cailíní as they went out 1 nil winners in this very closely contested game.
Possession was the name of the game and It would have been oh too easy to Give it Away but for the defensive work Glenree United’s goalies Amy Hunter & Hannah McClafferty minding the sticks and onion bag!
Their experience filtered throughout the team and kept Glenree in the game.
After a period of Puttin ‘em Under Pressure, Glenree’s Sweet Child O’ Mine Aoibhe McGettigan took possession of the ball on the 18 yard line on 19mins and chipped the keeper to Boom Boom Shake Shake the Room making it 1nil.
Half time couldn’t come quick enough for the Ladies in Red and the break to recoup was welcomed.
Still early morning and No Rain, the second half resumed as the first half left off and Glenree were defending free kick after free kick only for their Wonderwall to prevent any equaliser. Donegal came close on a number of occasions and Ms. Ellen James proved to be a handful and had the Glenree keeper sayin “I Knew You Were Trouble” through her efforts, but the defensive efforts of Boyce, Carr, O’Doherty, McHugh, Wilkin & Slavickova dealt with that and kept Glenree Stayin’ Alive.
The player of the match Aimeé Bassett marshalled her free kick and corner taking duties to perfection.
As the game drew to a close the nerves settled and you could see that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. The introduction of Coleen McCloskey, Chloe O’Doherty & Mia McGettigan helped the girls to take the game over the line.
The Never Ending Story of running and attacking from Tara Coyle & Alannah Duffy, Sophie Elliott, O’Neill & Leah Boyce kept the girls Running Free and the Glenree girls were Shiny Happy People on the final whistle. Nothing Else Matters now after a long season.
………Fade to Black.
