Woman seriously injured by fallen debris from Raphoe building

A woman was seriously injured this evening after being struck by a piece of rubble that fell from the cornice of a historic building in Raphoe.

The freak incident occurred at around 5:30pm in the Diamond area of the town as the local woman walked past the former Moffatt’s shop.

Passers by rushed to the injured pedestrian’s aid and, a short time later, Gardai, ambulance personnel and the Fire Service arrived on the scene.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson told Donegal Daily.
