Thousands of young people from the North West have received a strong road safety message at the RSA’s annual Road Safety Roadshow in Donegal.
An estimated 3,000 secondary school children from across Donegal, Tyrone and Derry are attending the roadshow this week, which also coincides with the RSA’s Road Safety Week.
This year’s road safety appeals are even more poignant, as the rate of deaths on the nation’s roads has increased sharply this year compared to previous years.
A total of 15 people have died on the roads in Donegal so far this year, compared to just 10 road deaths in all of 2023 here.
That total includes seven road deaths within a period of a month between the middle of August and September.
Students received talks from members of An Garda Síochána, the National Ambulance Service, Donegal Fire Service, a Consultant based within the Emergency Department of University Hospital Letterkenny, a family member of a road traffic accident victim and a road traffic accident survivor.
They are also shown striking visual demonstrations of the devastation victims of road traffic accidents face.
