Donegal brothers score big results at the World Darts Masters in Budapest!

Two teenage brothers from Donegal had a big week at the WDF World Masters in Budapest.

16-year-old Shane Porter and 13-year-old Jack Porter both jetted off to Hungary earlier this week for the biggest tournament of their young darts careers.

Facing off against over 200 other young darters from around the world, the Letterkenny boys faced a tough task to first get out of the round robin group stages, before heading to knockout competition.

Shane faced a difficult draw in his group, and was unlucky not to advance despite recording a good win over Icelandic competition.

However young Jack would rip off a string of results and go on one of the runs of the tournament.

He made his way through the challenging group stage competition, with three wins from three against Scottish and Canadian competition.

That then qualified him for the knockouts – starting at the top 256.

Jack continued to string off wins in the round of 128, 64 and 32 – before being handed the toughest of tests in the last 16.

Jack was matched up with the reigning Boys World Champion Bradley van der Velden from the Netherlands, and came back from a 0-2 deficit to win the match by 4 legs to 2.

That then put Jack up against top English prospect Archie Self in the Quarter-Final, with the winner advancing both to the Semi-Final of the Boy’s Masters – and qualifying for the WDF World Championships at Lakeside also.

Sadly Jack just fell short against the Englishman, losing 5-3 – but very much making his name known on the international stage in the process.

While this may have been the first international tournament for Shane and Jack – it looks like it’ll be far from the last one as well.
