The funeral of Kyle McDermott has heard of his “heart of gold” this afternoon.

The 24-year-old was killed in an altercation outside his home in Strabane last week, with a man being arrested under suspicion of his manslaughter.

Mourners packed into St Aengus’ Church in Burt to pay tribute to Kyle today.

During his homily, Fr Paddy Baker emphasised the kind and gentle nature in which Kyle greeted everyone he knew.

“Kyle was one of the purest, kindest, gentlest souls you could ever deserve to meet.”

“From the day he was born, he had an infectious smile on his face. He lit up every room he went into.”

“He had a heart of gold, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.”

“He met the love of his life, Chloe, in Liverpool, and from that day on (she) never left his side.”

Fr Baker also talked about the deep passion Kyle had for his work, and for diggers.

“Kyle’s passion in life ever since he could walk was to drive a digger – and he’s one of the best digger drivers around here I’m told, with a talent no one could match.”

“His dream was to own his own business. He was going to call it ‘KMac Construction.”

“Kyle learned everything he knew from his daddy about diggers, since he was able to walk.”

“He always believed that if you thought you were the best, you would never get any better. He was so humble – such a humble young lad.”

“Kyle had a very artistic side to him, he loved to draw. He was a man of many many talents who could put his hands to anything.”

“Kyle was an adoring family man, and his mammy’s blue-eyed boy.”

Kyle’s partner, Chloe, also gave a eulogy at his funeral.

“Everyone who ever met you just adored you and had nothing but the nicest of words to say.”

“You were so passionate about your work and just loved what you did.”

“I hope you are driving the best rubber duck up there, and that KMac Construction is thriving.”

“Thank you for being there for me through thick and thin, always being there and showing me what unconditional love looks like.”

“You will be missed and loved every single day, and will be in my heart every day, my beautiful, beautiful boy.”
