St Eunan’s captain doesn’t forget the inspirational ‘wee man’ Aidan McGlynn

His name could have easily have been forgotten amidst all the celebrations and delight.

But for St Eunan’s captain Kieran Tobin, there was never any question of overlooking all the work the late Aidan McGlynn put into this Letterkenny team.

Aidan passed away recently after a brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Along with brother Gareth, the Bomany man was part of the stats team which tactically plotted against teams over so many recent seasons.

And while illness may have forced him to watch for the stands in recent times, there was no questioning the imprint he left on this team.

And Tobin wasn’t going to forget that.

The late Aidan McGlynn

Neither were the St Eunan’s team who had Aidan’s name embroidered onto their jerseys.

As he climbed the steps to lift the Dr Maguire Cup this afternoon, teak-tough defender Tobin left his tribute to the ‘wee man’ until the very last.

He thanked all those in the backroom team as well as the management and his fellow payers and, of course, the fans.

But as he rose his hand aloft with the Dr Maguire shining in the Ballybofey skyline, the name of Aidan McGlynn echoed across the pitch on which hundreds of St Eunan’s fans had gathered.

Gone but never forgotten.

Aidan McGlynn’s memory and his input into the Donegal Senior Football Champions of 2024 will long be talked about at O’Donnell Park.
