A young Arranmore island man has captured the imagination after publishing his first book.
Sean Boyle, a local student, worked tireless on ‘Sean’s Guide to First Aid’, which was launched recently.
Sean, a student at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, Arranmore Island, even stepped aside to give Daniel O’Donnell some limelight when the singing star launched the book.
The book was launched at a special event by none other than Donegal’s beloved country singer, Daniel O’Donnell.
Sean, an islander through and through, was inspired to write his book after completing his work experience on both the Red and Blue Arranmore ferries.
During this time, he developed an interest in first aid, which was further nurtured when he successfully completed BIM training at Greencastle.
His experiences motivated him to share his knowledge, leading to the creation of Sean’s Guide to First Aid, a practical resource that is both informative and inspiring.
Singer Daniel O’Donnell, always supportive of local initiatives, praised Sean for his hard work and dedication.
The book is dedicated to Sean’s niece, Aria, a touching tribute to family, and all proceeds from the book are being donated to the Donegal Down Syndrome Association.
Sean’s success reflects not only his personal determination but also the supportive and encouraging atmosphere at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, where students are empowered to pursue their passions.
As the island’s only secondary school, Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada plays a key role in the community by offering a nurturing environment that allows students to thrive.
Derval Newman, principal of Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada said she was so proud of Sean’s achievement.
“As principal of Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, I am incredibly proud of Sean’s achievement in publishing Sean’s Guide to First Aid. His journey, from work experience on the Arranmore ferries to creating this valuable resource, showcases his passion and determination.
“Sean’s success reflects the nurturing environment at our school, where students are encouraged to pursue their unique talents. A special thanks goes to Ms. Brennan, who worked closely with Sean throughout this project, helped him to recognise his potential and achieve his goal of publishing a book.
“We were honoured to have Daniel O’Donnell, a beloved figure in Donegal, launch this important book. Daniel spoke about the power of goal setting and reminded us that anything is possible with hard work and dedication—perfectly mirroring Sean’s story.
“Sean’s decision to donate all proceeds to the Donegal Down Syndrome Association highlights the heart of this project: community, inclusion, and giving back. His example reminds us all of the power of support, compassion, and belief in one’s potential” she said.
Sean’s book is also a powerful reminder of the importance of community and giving back. All proceeds from Sean’s Guide to First Aid will go to the Donegal Down Syndrome Association, an organisation that supports individuals and families affected by Down syndrome across the county.
The project is already receiving widespread praise for raising awareness of both first aid and the importance of inclusion.
