Finn Harps have been boosted by the commitment of three of the club’s players to sign new deals.
Club captain Tony McNamee, Max Hutchinson and David Cawley have all agreed new deals committing their futures to the Ballybofye club.
Captain Tony McNamee, has signed a new two-year contract to remain at Finn Park through 2026.
Returning to Harps from Bonagee United during the 2023 season McNamee played 14 times to end that campaign. Being named Club Captain in February 2024, he had an excellent campaign playing 36 times in all competitions and netting 7 goals, as Harps finished sixth in the League of Ireland First Division.
Harps’ boss Darren Murphy said “Tony has been brilliant since he has come back, he’s the Club Captain, he’s a great ambassador for this football club both on and off the pitch.
“He is held in such high esteem by everyone around the club, both on and off the pitch. He leads by example on it and has been magnificent this season, it has been magnificent how he has looked after the squad, the relationship he has with myself and the relationship he has with the rest of the staff and the players.
“So I am absolutely delighted, to get the news across and get it over the line that Tony has agreed a new two-year deal”
Midfielder Max Hutchinson, has also agreed a new two-year deal to remain at Finn Harps.
Signing from NIFL Premiership Champions, Larne FC during the 2023 season. He played 17 times during 2023 for Finn Harps scoring twice in the FAI Cup and assisting three goals in all competitions.
During 2024, Hutchinson played 20 times for Harps. Starting 14 and coming off the bench six times.
Murphy spoke about him signing a new deal; “Max was unfortunate with injuries last year when he was doing really really well. I have convinced him to stay for two years to try and build a career and to give himself a platform.
“Again, he is one that I think we have yet to see the best of, and I am looking forward to the next two years to see Max progress and grow. It’s a brilliant addition again, a very popular member of the squad and a guy that is well liked around the football club.”
Midfielder David Cawley, has committed to a one year extension keeping him at Finn Harps through to the end of the 2025 campaign.
Mayo native, Cawley arrived from Sligo Rovers during January 2024 bringing a wealth of experience of domestic and UEFA European football. The 33-year-old achieved 28 appearances for Harps during the 2024 season scoring twice.
Darren Murphy had this to say about Cawley’s re-signing, “David, coming off full-time football at Sligo for a number of years where he was Club Captain has come into our football club. Again, how he conducts himself around our place is magnificent.
“What he has offered on the pitch has been fantastic but David offers me so much more off the pitch. He is such a role model for our young players, that they can look up to and learn from.
“I am absolutely delighted that he has agreed to come back to Finn Harps for another season. It shows how much he has enjoyed his time with us after being a full-time footballer for such a long time; to move into a part-time hybrid model. It shows how much he thinks of us as a club, and I am absolutely delighted.”
