Donegal Local Development Clg (DLDC) has announced the appointment of Paul Hannigan as Chairman of the Board following a recent rotation.
Mr Hannigan, Head of College at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal, has had a distinguished career in higher education. Since his initial appointment as President of LYIT in January 1998, he has played a pivotal role in the institution’s development and its transition into Atlantic Technological University in 2022.
Mr Hannigan also serves as the Vice President for Cross Border Engagement at ATU, with a dedicated special engagement centre now established on the Letterkenny campus.
With an impressive career in education, leadership, and community engagement, Mr Hannigan’s wealth of experience will significantly benefit DLDC as it continues its mission to unlock the potential of individuals and strengthen communities in Donegal.
Paul Hannigan, Chair of DLDC, stated: “I am deeply honoured to take on this role. DLDC has always worked to develop and empower the communities we live and work in; in a fair, sustainable, and equitable way. I am committed to building on this foundation and those before me to ensure that we continue to support the people of Donegal to create opportunities for growth and inclusivity. I look forward to leading this incredible team as we work toward a brighter future for all.”
As part of this board rotation, several new directors have also been appointed to the Board of DLDC. These include Dean Gillespie, representing the Base Centre as a Community Representative for the East, and Rosaleen Doherty, from Independent Living, also serving as a Community Representative for the East.
Eunan Cunnigham of Áislann Cill Chartha and Teresa Ní Ghallachóir of Coiste Forbharta Cnoc Fola have been appointed as Community Representatives for the Gaeltacht.
Additionally, Cllr Michael McMahon and Cllr Declan Meehan have joined as Donegal County Council (DCC) Members, with Edel Patton representing the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA).
Padraic Fingleton, CEO of DLDC, stated: “The Board and Team at DLDC are delighted to welcome Paul Hannigan as our new Chairman. His extensive experience and leadership will be invaluable as he guides the organisation in continuing its vital work in local development, community engagement, and social inclusion across County Donegal. Paul’s appointment comes as part of a broader board rotation, and this change comes at a critical time as DLDC seeks to strengthen its impact in supporting communities and delivering supports across our catchment area.”
“The addition of these directors brings fresh perspectives and expertise to the DLDC Board, and we are excited about the contributions they will make as we work together to build a stronger, more inclusive Donegal,” Fingleton added.
