Glenswilly 0-11 v 1-06 Four Masters

By Charlie Collins at Pairc Naomh Columba

The 10-00am Sunday morning throw-in didn’t prevent these two teams producing a cracking game of football in this Under21 A championship clash at Pairc Naomh Columba.

The home team got off to a flying start with points from Oisín McGrenra, Mark Bonner and two frees from Shane Tinney. In between those Tinney frees they also had a great goal chance when some excellent passing ended with McGrenra sending corner-back Mickey Toner racing through but his shot was saved by Lewis McCaughan to keep Four Masters in the game.

They responded with points front Conor McCahill and Conor Reid but two quick points from Jake Kelly and the excellent Donal Gallagher restored Glenswilly’s four point advantage, 0-06 to 0-02.

However the visitors finished the first-half strongly with points from Oisín Doherty and Callum McCrea and took the lead for the first time when Conor McCahill pounced on a Glenswilly error before running 50mtrs and shooting low past John Quinn, 1-04 to 0-06 for Four Masters at the break.

Glenswilly began the second-half as they had the first with three points in a row to take a lead they would never lose again, Shane Tinney, Daithi Gildea and Oisín McGrenra their scorers during this key period of the match.

With both teams defending very well scores were difficult to get, all Four Masters could manage were two frees by Oisín Doherty, and each time he scored Daithi Gildea replied to give Glenswilly a deserved two point victory, 0-11 to 1-06 and a winning start to their campaign.
