There is great sadness in the Twin Towns today, following the passing of a popular former school teacher.

Aidan Doherty passed away earlier this week at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Mr Doherty was well known by many in the Twin Towns and the surrounding areas as a beloved English teacher at the Stranorlar Vocational School, as well as a friendly face in Ballybofey who had the pleasure of running into him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Noreen.

Aidan was fondly remembered by many on social media following the news of his passing.

“So sorry to hear about Aidan passing, was a brilliant teacher and a real gentleman,” one person posted.

“Ah I’m sad to hear this. You’d never meet him without a wee story of some sort… one of the town’s characters that’s for sure. Rest in peace Aidan,” another added.

His Requiem Mass will take place at St Mary’s Church, Sessiaghoneill, at 12 noon on Monday.
