The Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys has today announced the details of four Cost of Living lump sum payments being paid this week.

These supports were introduced as part of Budget 2025 and are part of a total of ten lump sum payments that will be paid before Christmas to support households with the cost of living.

The Social Protection budget – the largest in the history of the State – will assist families, pensioners, carers, and people with disabilities with the Cost of Living through a mix of lump sum payments, targeted supports and increases to weekly payments.

The Lump-Sum payments being paid this week are:

  • On Tuesday, 5th November 2024: 667,000 families, in respect of over 1.2 million children, will receive a double Child Benefit payment.
  • A €300 Fuel Allowance Lump Sum Payment will be paid to over 400,000 households (payment day differs per recipient).
  • From Wednesday 6th November to Friday 8th November, a €400 Disability Support Payment will be paid to 213,000 people with disabilities (recipients of Disability Allowance, Invalidity Pension and Blind Pension).
  • On Thursday, 7th November, a €400 lump sum Working Family Payment will be paid to 46,000 households.

People will receive the lump sum payments in addition to and on the same day that they usually receive their primary payment.

Announcing the details, Minister Humphreys said “This week, we are rolling out four of the lump sum payments that I secured as part of Budget 2025.

“On Tuesday we will have the first of our double Child Benefit payments that will support over 1.2 million children across the State.

“We also have over 400,000 households in receipt of the Fuel Allowance that will receive a €300 lump sum.

“In addition, 46,000 families that receive the Working Family Payment will get a lump sum of €400, and 213,000 people with disabilities will also receive a €400 lump sum payment.

“The payments being paid this week will be followed by 5 further lump sum payments over the coming weeks, including a €400 Carer’s Support Payment, a 2nd double Child Benefit payment, and the Christmas Bonus payments in early December.

“This suite of lump sum payments means that people will have extra money in their pockets, which will ease the pressure and stress that many households are facing.”

All the lump sum and double payments are automatically paid – people do not need to apply for them.

In addition to the series of lump-sum payments, Minister Humphreys also secured across-the-board payment increases and a range of targeted supports, which take effect from January 2025. The full list of Budget 2025 Social Protection measures is available at Gov.ie/dspbudget2025.

The lump sum payment of €400 to people getting Disability Allowance, Invalidity Pension, Blind Pension and/or Carer’s Support Grant, is payable in respect of one payment.
