A large crowd is expected at a public meeting called to discuss the failure to award any finding for the new Buncrana Leisure Centre project.

The funding application for the key Inishwowen project was expected to be included as part of the €173million of funding allocated under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.

But the project was simply not included.

There is much anger among the local community over what is being described as a snub.

There has been no public swimming pool in Buncrana since 2015 when the leisure centre closed.

There was delighted when planning approval for a two-storey building of almost 2,500 square metres and a 25-metre-long pool was granted in January.

However, the funding for a new project has not ben forthcoming.

A public meeting to demand the funding be provided will now take place in Crana College at 8pm on Tuesday, November 12.

A large attendance is expected to a attend the meeting.
