A driver was arrested in the Letterkenny area on Thursday after being caught speeding and under the influence of drugs.

The motorist was clocked during speed checks for ‘National Slow Down Day’.

The driver was going 140KPH in a 100KPH zone.

When stopped by gardaí, the driver then tested positive for cocaine.

Further fines were handed out to other drivers breaking the speed limit by larger amounts, including 131km/h, 129 km/h and 127 km/h.

Many of the detections were made on the Dual Carriageway.

Another driver was clocked speeding at 113km/h in a 80km/h zone on the R245 Cashelshanaghan in Letterkenny yesterday.

Slow Down Day is an operation which takes place several times a year to urge drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
