The community in Inishowen are being reminded of the importance of a public meeting being held tonight regarding Buncrana Leisure Centre.

The meeting is being held at Crana College in response to a ‘snub’ to the centre following recent Government funding announcements.

The funding application for the key Inishwowen project was expected to be included as part of the €173million of funding allocated under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.

Cllr Jack Murray issued the reminder if advance of the meeting which is scheduled to take place tonight at 8pm.

He said “There is widespread disappointment and frustration throughout Inishowen at the decision not to fund Buncrana Leisure through the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund.

“In response to that, the community will rally together to find a solution and finally get the funding we deserve.

“The meeting will be addressed by representatives from local schools and sporting organisations, and we will be seeking a way forward which brings and end to this unacceptable delay.

“I hope it will be a constructive, solution focused meeting that will help finally get our leisure centre built, and enjoyed for generations to come.”
