There has been an outpouring of sadness after the passing of popular comedian and entertainer Jon Kenny.

The County Limerick native passed away after a cardiac arrest.

Best known for his work fellow comedy legend Pat Shortt in comedy duo d’Unbelieveables, Jon revealled earlier this year that he had been undergoing treatment for heart failure and cancer.

Kenny also played two of the most beloved side-characters in the ever-popular sitcom Father Ted, cameoing as the host of “A Song For Europe”, as well as playing cinema owner Michael during Ted and Dougal’s protest of The Passion of Saint Tibulus.

Most recently he featured in The Banshees of Inisheerin in 2022, bringing his wit to an international audience.

His family released a statement to the Limerick Leader announcing his passing earlier today.

“It is with deep sadness, the family of Jon Kenny, his wife and soul-mate Margy, his son Aran and daughter Laya, wish to announce his passing yesterday, 15th November 2024 at 7.20pm, in hospital in Galway.”

“Jon had suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Sunday 10th November at UHG (University Hospital Galway). He did not regain consciousness, but his entire family was by his side during this difficult time.”

“Jon grabbed life and shook it as hard as he could, getting every ounce of fun, madness and love from it – his wit, humour, generosity and kindness will outlast his passing. The memories and stories of those who knew him will be his legend.”
