The newly renovated Edeninfagh Hall came alive on Friday, 15th November, as the community from both sides of the border gathered to celebrate its re-opening with a vibrant cultural evening.
The event, organised by BALGLEN project, brought together local talent, celebrated literary heritage, and marked the hall’s return as a cultural hub for the Glenties area.
The BALGLEN project is a cross-border initiative funded by the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) through the Communities in Partnership Programme. It aims to develop the relationship between Ballinascreen Community Forum in the Draperstown area of Northern Ireland and partner organisations in Glenties / Ardara.

The evening commenced with opening remarks from local dignitaries and organisers, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. A diverse programme of poetry readings, music, and song performances followed, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
Highlights of the evening included tributes to some of Ireland’s most beloved literary figures. Works by Brian Friel, and Patrick McGill, were beautifully brought to life, reminding the audience of their deep connections to the area and its storytelling traditions. The performances were further enriched by contributions from talented local performers from Glenties and Ballinascreen, ensuring that the evening was both intimate and inspiring.
Frankie Devine, chairperson of Coiste Forbartha Eadan Fhionn Fraoich, expressed gratitude to all who made the event possible: “Tonight, we celebrate not just the re-opening of Edeninfagh Hall but the incredible spirit of our community. This hall is more than just a building; it is a place for us to share our stories, our music, and our heritage. Seeing so many people come together to mark this occasion shows the strength and pride of our community. Edeninfagh Hall’s re-opening is set to usher in a new era of community engagement and cultural celebration. Thanks to all involved in making this event a resounding success and to those organisations who supported the refurbishment work; Department of Rural and Community Development, Donegal County Council, Udaras na Gaeltachta and Roinn na Gaeltachta.”
Paddy Doherty, Divisional Manager of the Community Development Division, Donegal County Council who administered the CLÁR programme (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) on behalf of the Department. Congratulated the committee in delivering the refurbishment project, he said “The council was delighted to work with local communities in bringing much needed facilities back into use. The refurbished hall will be a great asset to the local community.”
The event concluded with refreshments and warm conversations, leaving attendees from both sides of the border with a renewed sense of connection and a shared appreciation for the cultural wealth of the area.
