The first cold snap of the winter arrived overnight, bringing light snow and freezing conditions.

Main roads across the county are clear, and you can check your route on the Donegal County Council map here.

A status yellow warning for snow/ice is in effect for Donegal from 6am this Tuesday morning until 11am. Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo are also under this alert.

Road users and pedestrians are being urged to take extra care due to possible hazardous conditions on the roads and footpaths.

A second weather alert has been issued for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Forecasters are warning it will also be “very cold with widespread frost and icy stretches.”

This nationwide alert is valid from 8pm Tuesday until 10am Wednesday.
