It will be very cold across Ulster this morning with outbreaks of rain gradually moving to the south,  turning to sleet and possibly snow over higher ground.

Sunny and dry spells will develop from the north during this afternoon with highest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees in a chilly northerly breeze.

It will be mostly dry tonight with clear spells. A few showers will drift in across northern areas turning wintry at times too. A very cold northerly breeze will persist with lowest temperatures of 1 to -3 degrees.

Tomorrow, frost and ice will be slow to thaw, perhaps lingering all day in sheltered spots. A mix of sunshine and showers again, some of them wintry. Highs of 3 to 5 degrees with light northwest winds, freshening at times and feeling quite cold too.

Meanwhile, a status yellow warning for snow/ice is in effect for Donegal from 6am this Tuesday morning until 11am. Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo are also under this alert.

Road users and pedestrians are being urged to take extra care due to possible hazardous conditions on the roads and footpaths.

A second weather alert has been issued for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Forecasters are warning it will also be “very cold with widespread frost and icy stretches.”

You can check road conditions across the county on the Donegal County Council map here.
