‘Hazardous’ conditions over next 24 hours before arrival of ‘Storm Bert’

Met Éireann has issued a low-temperature warning and said there will be ‘hazardous’ driving and walking conditions over the next 24 hours.

The national forecaster said it will be very cold with widespread frost, icy stretches and lying snow persisting today, tonight and tomorrow.

“Possible impacts include hazardous conditions on roads and paths,” they said, adding there could be some travel disruption.

The Yellow low-temperature alert is valid until 12pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann says that ‘Storm Bert’ will follow tomorrow afternoon’s thaw.

It has also issued a moderate Yellow wind warning which is valid from 10pm on Friday night until 12 noon on Saturday.

“Storm Bert will bring very strong southeast to south winds coupled with heavy rain,” they said.

Possible impacts: localised flooding, travel disruption and fallen trees.

“This weekend, Storm Bert will move close to Ireland, displacing the recent cold Arctic air mass,” the spokesperson added.

“Very strong winds and heavy rain will track northeastwards over the country on Friday night, with warnings already in place. Storm Bert will continue to dominate our weather through the weekend and into early next week, and further warnings will be issued for this event.”
