A Donegal animal charity has warned about the dangers of illegal snares after a cat was caught in one for an agonising three days.

The feral cat became entangled in the snare (pictured above) in the Fanad area.

Thankfully, it was eventually caught but a wire cutter had to be used to unleash the wire from its body.

Animals in Need Donegal are warning people about the dangers of such snares on cats and dogs and other animals.

A spokesperson said “This poor cat was a feral cat, and it took 3 days to catch her. Three full days of suffering with a wire snare caught around her body, digging into her body. Imagine the pain.

“Luckily, she was caught and seen at the vets, where it took wire cutters to release her.

“These snares cause a lot of damage to wildlife as well as causing a danger to pets. Keep your pets safe.”

This matter has been reported to the gardai.
