Saving the environment – a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it!

Nuala Carr, the Green Party candidate for Donegal, is calling for your number one vote on election day on 29th November.

It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it.

No, not politics – saving the environment!

As part of the EU Intelligent Cities Challenge, the North West City Region / Ireland Northwest, gathered at Clonmany Community Gardens on Sunday November 10th to collectively build a Johnson-Su Bioreactor.

Led by experts from KPM Soils and The Inishowen Rivers Trust, this Regenerative Soil Project is promoting and demonstrating the vital importance of healthy soil for climate change mitigation and biodiversity, while also putting human physical and mental health high up on the agenda.

Collaborative grassroots projects such as this, work both for the benefit of communities and for the environment in which we live, protecting, restoring and improving our soils and habitats.

Green Party candidate Nuala Carr went along to the Local Green Deal Regenerative Soil Project in Clonmany.

Nuala and other local volunteers got stuck into the building of the bioreactor directed by Kevin Moore and Claire Thompson Moore of KPM Soils.

Donegal is privileged to have such extensive expertise within KPM Soils. Their work is not only fascinating, but a real eye opener to see what a little science, a few drain pipes and people knee-deep in muck can actually achieve.

Green Party candidate Nuala Carr, who is also an environmental scientist loves this initiative – “Throughout the world soil health is under pressure, which in turn affects agricultural produce.  Projects like this give Mother Nature a helping hand to rebalance soil ecosystems which should be full of micro-organisms, like fungi, bacteria and nutrients. These complex relationships within our soils determine the quality of what we choose to grow in it”.
