A fund has been launched for a well-known Letterkenny man who lost his home in a house fire last night.

Popular John Wallace is well-known as one of the faces of Cosgrove’s Centra (formerly Kelly’s) at Mountain Top.

John is always a welcoming face at the store and always has a big, genuine hello for every customer.

But disaster struck last night when John lost his home in a fire.

Thankfully, John was not hurt in the fire.

Now staff and colleagues at Cosgrove’s have rowed in and are hoping to help John rebuild his home and his life.

The staff have launched a Go Fund Me Page in a bid to get John a roof over his head once more.

A staff member said “We had some terrible news today. Our dear friend John Wallace lost his home last night in a fire. Thankfully John is ok and unharmed.

“John has been a great friend to many and has one of the warmest hearts in Donegal.

“We have set up a go fund me page and will be doing some collections in store over the next few days to help him rebuild his life. All and any support is much appreciated.”

If you would like to donate a little (or a lot!) to the Go Fund Me page go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/rebuild-johns-home?attribution_id=sl:0b5bdf26-5f41-4fde-b45d-72a6f3f21872&utm_campaign=man_ss_icons&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link
