‘The Cope’ is celebrating the fourth successful year of their profit-sharing scheme with their employees.

For the financial year ending January 2024, 15% of the west Donegal co-op’s profits have been shared among staff, demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to its team and recognising their valuable contribution to the business.

Employing over 100 people in the region, the 118-year-old business has locations in Dungloe, Annagry, Falcarragh, and Kincasslagh.

Chief Executive Mark Sharkey expressed his pride in the team.

“This marks our fourth consecutive year of profit sharing, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees,” he said.

“Despite challenges like inflation, rising business and energy costs our team has played a crucial role in ensuring The Cope remains strong and successful.”

Mr Sharkey added, in today’s economic environment, recognising and appreciating their team has never been more critical.

“As we look ahead to 2025, we remain focused on adapting to challenges while staying true to our cooperative values. This initiative is not only a gesture of gratitude, but also a reflection of our long-term commitment to sustainability and community-driven growth.”

Board Chairman, Pat Dunleavy, emphasised The Cope’s rich heritage in west Donegal.

“Since its founding by Paddy ‘the Cope’ Gallagher in 1906, this cooperative has prioritised reinvesting in its community and team. Profit-sharing is a continuation of Paddy’s legacy, ensuring that the benefits of our success flow directly back to those who make it possible.”

The Cope’s commitment to its profit-sharing scheme continues to set it apart as a leading cooperative, fostering a culture of appreciation, collaboration, and mutual success.
