Sinn Fein’s Martin Kenny has topped the first tally amongst voters in South Donegal, as the first full count is now well underway in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency.
Kenny commanded the most first-preferences of voters in South Donegal, with 1,215 – almost twice that of the next most popular, Fine Gael’s Frank Feighan.
However Feighan looks on track to top the polls in the constituency overall on 15.8%, with Kenny trailing just behind on 13.6%.
Independent Ireland’s Michael Clarke (10.5%) and Fianna Fail’s Eamon Scanlon (10.4%) are being closely followed by the second Sinn Fein candidate Chris MacManus (9.1%) in fifth place.
Meanwhile incumbent TD Marian Harkin may struggle to gain re-election, only gathering 7.6% of the first preferences in the tallies.
