Hundreds will unite in mourning today to say a final farewell to Tiernan Kelly Doherty, an 18-year-old Carndonagh man who was killed in a tragic crash near Buncrana last Sunday.

Guards of Honour will be held as people from across the community pay tribute to the talented young footballer.

Tiernan’s funeral will take place this Thursday, 5th December, at 1.30pm in the Sacred Heart Church Carndonagh, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

The son of Kevin and Louise, Tiernan was a keen GAA player and soccer player and made great achievements with both CLG Charn Domhnaigh and Carndonagh FC.

A tribute from Carndonagh FC ahead of the funeral said: “We as a club are proud and privileged to have been part of his life, watching him grow into a fine young man who coached our younger players, represented our club but most of all lit up every room he walked into.

“We ask that all past and present players, join with us tomorrow at 1pm at the Sacred Heart Church to as we say our Final goodbye and stand together in a Guard of Honour for our TK.”

Tiernan was a ‘star’, said CLG Charn Domhnaigh.

“Today we set out on a journey we really can’t believe that we have to take, as we set out to lay our Tiernan to rest,” a club spokesperson said.

“All our lives are that much better for having known him. His smile, personality, love for life and love for his family and friends, are what we will remember and hold dear.
In such a brief time, he has left us with so many memories that we will never forget.”

The Carndonagh Community School community said he was a “truly remarkable young man”.

“Beyond his talents and achievements, Tiernan was a young man of exceptional character. Polite, well-mannered, and respectful, he treated everyone – teachers, peers, and friends – with kindness and genuine warmth. He had a way of making people feel valued, and that is a gift that not everyone possesses,” said a tribute from the school.

Tiernan will be sadly missed by his parents, his younger brothers Kyrin, Cohen, and Keegan and his broken-hearted girlfriend Kaylah.

Tiernan is deeply regretted by his grandparents Sean and Maureen, his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends and neighbours.
