Drivers warned as part of Creeslough bridge collapses

Drivers on the main Letterkenny to Creeslough road have been warned to be extra vigilant following the collapse of a wall at Owencarrow Bridge.

The bridge on the N56 road near the Log Cabin pub has been cordoned off by plastic rails and bollards.

Local county councillor Michael McClafferty has raised the issue with Donegal County Council in a bid to get finding to repair the bridge.

However, he said it is a wider issue for other bridges in the area.

He said “It will be repaired the Council have assured me as soon as possible. How ever a structural survey has to be carried out and then funding made available there after.

“The money has to be found as we don’t have a proper bridge fund in place to draw funds from as I’m aware.

“There are several bridges in the Creeslough area in need of repair from walls built like this one to bigger works such as Laca Bridge at Doe castle right back to Glashoo Curransport in west Donegal to name a few.

“Myself and my fellow collogues are trying our best to resolve in the Glenties MD currently.
