A Donegal councillor has praised those busy restoring electricity and water supplies around the county and urged the public to be patient with them.
Cllr Michael McClafferty also said council employees were doing their best to clear trees and debris from roads following Friday night’s Storm Darragh.
Thousands of customers are still without power or water in many areas and are not expected to be reconnected for a number of days.
“All I know is that our ESB workers are currently in a swamp in the Dunfanaghy/Creeslough area trying to sort out lines and poles,” Cllr McClafferty said.
“Our water Crews are fighting hard to keep pumping stations flowing as they keep shutting down due to interruptions. Our phone and internet engineers are trying their best. Our council workers are going through different areas, let it be Creeslough to Ardara dealing with very difficult situations, mostly cutting trees and clearing roads where possible.”
He warned that some of the roads most affected by fallen trees will take until Monday or Tuesday to fully clear.
“Thank you to all of these people and many many more medical staff and others not mentioned who have small children, elderly parents and loved ones at home waiting on their return while they’re out risking their lives for their communities. Spare a thought for them, too,” he added.
“Maybe light a candle and hope and pray that everybody is kept from harm’s way and safe from workplace accidents or otherwise, and if we all stay calm and patient. We will get sorted in the days to come. As it goes without saying, check on all elderly neighbours.
“Thanks to all the above mentioned and anybody who’s out helping after the storm.”
