Power restored to thousands in Donegal, but hundreds face further wait

ESB Networks teams are continuing to work to restore electricity supplies to hundreds of Donegal homes and businesses two days after Storm Darragh.

Crews from French counterparts, Enedis, have sailed in today to assist in the worst impacted areas.

The north west, midlands and south east of the country are the worst hit areas with many people left without power since Friday.

There is good news for those in parts of Inishowen (Moville and Buncrana) and Glenties where power returned this morning.

However, scatterings of outages remain elsewhere across parts of Newtowncunningham, Milford, Buncrana, Carndonagh, Cullion in Letterkenny and Ballyshannon.

All other areas will have a further wait until this Monday evening, with restore times of 7pm and 8pm announced.

ESB Networks said that Storm Darragh left a total of 395,000 customers without power last weekend.

An update last night said: “Due to the severity and significant scale of the damage some customers could be without power for approximately a week. Assessment of the extent of damage is continuing.”

Customers are advised to keep an eye on www.PowerCheck.ie for updates on their areas.

An Important Public Safety Message: If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999.
