Gardai in Co Donegal are at the scene of a serious crash between a car and a bus.

The incident happened just after 9.30am between Manorcunningham and Newtowncunningham, the N13, close to Magherabeg National School.

It is understood that there are 13 passengers on the Bus Eireann Expressway bus.

Eye-witnesses have said that a number of people have been injured.

Gardai have now confirmed that three people have been taken to hospital as a result of the crash.

The bus careered through a hedge and into a field following the collision with the car.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.

A spokesperson for Bus Eireann confirmed an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“Bus Éireann can confirm a collision occurred involving one of our coaches operating Route 64, Sligo to Derry this morning just after 10am at Manorcunningham.

“Local emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel are in attendance at the scene and providing all necessary support. The collision will be investigated in line with our normal procedures.

“The safety of our passengers, staff and the public is of paramount importance to Bus Éireann. We would like to thank An Garda Síochána and the emergency services for their swift response to the incident.”
