Vital equipment provided through donations from the Donegal public has gone into operation at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Friends of Letterkenny Hospital managed to raise a staggering €30,800 which was used to purchase the new Rezum equipment.
The equipment is used to treat men with benign enlarged prostatic disease.
Rezum is a non-surgical treatment procedure to remove excess prostatic tissue.
Symptoms of retention of urine reduce fairly quickly, and healing is rapid, thanks to the new equipment.
Mr. Shawgi Omer, Consultant Urologist in LUH, is pictured carrying out his first procedures with the new Rezum equipment.
A spokesperson for the Friends of Letterkenny Hospital said they were delighted to be in a position to provide funding for the vital equipment.
